| EL
POLLO SUPREMO |
 |
For
a quick meal on the run, El Pollo Supremo reigns supreme
among its Miami competitors. Cooked on an open flame, delicioso
chicken lives up to its reputation as the best fast bird
in town. Lunch or dinner cost next to nothing, with prices
so low you wonder how they swing it. The 2-piece combo special
is just $3.59. Feed a whole family for under $11.
But tasty fast chicken isn't the
only reason why folks keep flocking here. Masitas de Puerco
(flavorful pork chunks), Pan con Bistek and the chicken
soup are all perennial crowd pleasers along with standard
Cuban sides like congri, black beans, fried plantains and
yucca with mojo. Vigilant weight watchers may prefer to
have the Low-Cal Platter or Chicken Caesar salad.
| CREPE
MAKER |
 |
At
this award-winning creperie, there's an enticing choice
of possibilities that transform the common crepe from ordinaire
to extraordinaire. It's terrific fun watching as your order
is created, and the anticipation grows as you watch.
You'll find one delectable
creation after another on the entrée and dessert
menus and they're not only delicious, they're wholesome.
For example, batters are made only with organic flour, churned
butter, and sea salt. There isn't a crepe here that isn't
wonderful, but The Cordon Blue and Raspberry Chicken are
exceptional. Done to fluffy perfection, the latter is stuffed
with tender marinated chicken breast, vine ripened tomatoes,
spinach and Cheddar cheese, topped with raspberry preserves
and bits of walnut. After this, dessert seems decadent,
but who can resist the Triple Treat with banana slices,
strawberries, nutella and whipped cream?
| CASA
PANZA |
 |
It
may look somewhat like a Swiss chalet on the outside,
but don't let appearances fool you. Casa Panza is renowned
for its Spanish cuisine, including tapas that are as good
as any you'll find in Madrid. Though the architecture
is anything but Spanish, this is one of the best places
in town for Flamenco guitar and dance. Weekends are hopping
and night birds will be happy to hear doors seldom close
before 4:00 a.m.
Tapas are definitely at
the top on your list of things to try, along with a glass
of good Spanish wine or Sangria. There's a choice of thirty-five
(calientes and frias), so if you're not tapa savvy, ask
your waiter for help. Paella is also a Casa Panza highlight.
Paella servings are for two, so bring a partner.
